In
common everyday
speech, this is the
term used to describe
nonsexual,
spiritual love.
However, Plato should sue the Catholic Church for libel! He never talked about nonsexual love! He did talk about spiritual love but with very sexual undertones (or perhaps overtones?). What bugged the Church was that he meant love between MEN, and to the papacy that seemed incomprehensible, how can such a great philosopher, on whose theories much of the Christian doctorine is based, be a pervert? surely he means nonsexual love...
Well he didn't! and all you have to do is read his Symposium from beginning to end to know!
