Also known as "sand-
gnats", no-see-ums are tiny
insects (
Culicoides furens) that live near
salt water and
mangroves and are common in
South Florida. Feeding time for these microscopic biters is at
dawn and
dusk and their bites are often quite painful and can leave welts.
Due to their small
size and speed, no-see-ums often bite without being seen, hence their name.
