lit. "Nothing new" in Latin. Nihil is the nominative form of "nothing," and novi (novis, nominative = new, a thing that is new) is in the ablative form of an adjective. This can be used in the sense of the thing in question having been around for a very long time; that nothing new is occurring presently; or in the jocular, understating fashion of "no one here but us chickens!"
