A marketing ploy is any plan aimed at increasing sales or popularity of a product. Such plans covers everything from the ingenious non-advertisment plan of the film A.I. to Microsoft's long-range sales strategy and Pepsi's "Generation Next" slogans. One of the more successful plans is Coca-Cola's Santa Claus. The origonal St. Nicholas wore a green suit and wasn't very fat (since he was supposed to enter a house through non-door openings). A hard-hitting advertisment campaign from the Coca-Cola company changed that image, and now the ideal Santa in the western world is created by a multi-national company.
