A very popular (in my opinion, at least) style of music in India.

The basis of jugalbandi is what you would call "call and answer." Consider it a contest between two artists, to see who can create the most complex melody, then watch it get copied, then try to top it. If you have ever heard the dueling banjos song from "Deliverance," it is a striking example of a (redneck) jugalbandi.

Although jugalbandis can be performed with any instruments, in my opinion, the best are those performed by two percussionists. The growing complexity and subtelty of rhythms that build up over the course of a jugalbandi is an auditory treat. It is quite possibly the pinnacle of percussive achievement.
