perched atop falling leaves
slowly, falling slowly i've
time to stare off into space but
i watched you walk beneath
and you didn't notice me
i saw your swollen eyes
tear stained beautiful face
hurt for the last time
by careless lips of.. them

i'd thought that skywater might
fall as the leaves but
it looks like not even the rain will
be there to soothe your mind
consumed with pain, you deserve it for
being
in a world that you are not part of
blissful sweat drenched musings
i am still watching, aching for
your loss that fills me and tears a
piece.. peace of soul from within and
nothing will ever be different again

"are you okay with everything?" she asks.

"well... it's just confusing, you know?"

"... yeah."

"I just don't like the idea of being stuck in a long distance thing one tiny bit. It just feels stupid."

"... yeah. it does."

"But, it feels like such a waste; it sucks, things are fun but two months isn't a very long time."

"So why don't we just say, fuck the long distance thing? It's not going to work, you know."

"..."

"Well, why don't you just say it?"

"You don't know how refreshing it is to hear you speak rationally! I'm used to girls being dumb about stuff like this."

"Well, it just makes the most sense."

"Yeah."

"..."

"Look at the clouds. It's going to rain."

"You want it to rain, don't you?"

"... It looks like rain, there's no avoiding it."

"..."

"Your eyes are red"

"It's my contacts, they're drying."

....
She was going to cry, but I wasn't going to try and stop it. If it looks like rain, it's going to rain. There's no avoiding it.

I remember when I first heard the phrase

the Near distance

I pictured her

because it was her nature to spend hours sitting outside

searching the horizon without a word,  not expecting something

just there

She said she was just taking in the Air

and would laugh if I called it Meditation,

which she thought was nonsense

When it finally got dark,  sometimes she would stand up, stretching

then a long exhale and a look West,

as if she had missed something

As she walked inside

I cannot recall her saying a word
