In baseball when a batter hits a curveball for a homerun or a double, it is very common to hear the announcer say that he hit a "hanging curveball" or that the pitcher "hung the curve", implying that it was somehow a bad pitch or was in a bad location. But in truth the "hanging curve" is a largely meaningless term that announcers like to say whenever a curveball is hit hard. If the same pitch in the same location had produced a weak grounder or a called strike the announcer would have been just as quick to praise it.
