A
satire of
love,
honor and
Oxford written by
Max Beerbohm. Beerbohm's only
novel,
Zuleika Dobson was published in 1911.
Zuleika is a woman who comes to Oxford and throws the entirety of Judas College into upheaval. All the
undergraduates fall in love with her, including the Duke, but Zulieka can only love those who do not love her. All her would-be lovers wish to kill themselves to show their devotion.
Hilarious in a British kind of way. If you're into
Edwardian satire, this book is great.
