Dexter Gordon once called Hank Mobley "the middleweight champ" of tenor saxophonists (it was a compliment); Lateef may have been the number-one contender, or close to it. A portion of the liner notes to one of Lateef's Riverside recordings was copied-and-pasted by Donald Barthelme, in one of his early short stories (I can't remember which one now); you have now consumed your Useless Fact of the Day.
