Founded in 1936, the Yomiuri Giants are Japan's most famous, most successful and also wealthiest professional baseball team. They have won more titles than any other team and are the only team to get all their games broadcast nationwide and reported in all major newspapers. To no small degree, this is due to the fact that the company who owns the Giants also owns some of the most widely-circulated newspapers in Japan. The team is to Japanese baseball what Britney Spears is to current pop music: Incredibly popular with the general public, but also hated with a passion by many who percieve their dominance to be mostly due to their abundant funding, which allows them to just hire all the best players with little regard to who actually fits well into the team. Since 1988, the Giants' home ballpark has been the Tokyo Dome.
