Thursday Afternoon

It’s always when I’m having
“one of those days.”
I’ll talk to you
and by some miracle you just
despite my crystalline smile
that I really need this now.

The self-loathing smog suffocating me
when a glance
from your eyes
splashes the room with sunshine.
I hope you don’t mind the times
when I stop listening
because I’m busy melting into their
euphoric quicksand.

And it’s those fragments of time
when your hand slips around mine
shooting its indescribable comfort
into my bloodstream
and my head sinks into your shoulder
where I wish I could just
