Thunderchief was the official given name to the Republic fighter-bomber aircraft F-105. The aircraft received its name on June 19, 1956.
Apart from the almost official nickname "Thud", the Thunderchief was also more or less affectionately called:
- Ultra Hog
- Lead Sled
- Iron Butterfly
- Mighty Iron Hardware
- Squash Bomber
- Nickel
- Triple Threat (It could shoot you, it could bomb you and it could fall on you...)
