Pootle was the youngest, and always worried about life and what it meant. He/she (I'm not sure we ever found out) was yellow, had a white knitted hat, and a permanent cold (maybe something wrong with its adonoids). The musical instrument of choice amongst Flumps was the Flumpet (odd, brass thing with many valves and a large bell, I remember). They also had cool toes which could move independently of each other, as if they were playing glissandos on the piano.
