The last album
Brian Wilson produced before retiring from touring with the
Beach Boys, this album dealt with far more complex matters than previous Beach Boys albums. Rather than restrict himself to fun-in-the-sun type subjects, Brian was now wondering what lay ahead in the future, regretting his own failiings as a man, and talking about the doubts he had in himself.
The songs sound for the most part like Brian Wilson solo compositions, but after a mid-90s lawsuit
Mike Love was added to the credits as lyricist for all the originals.
And why they finished off such a groundbreaking album with
Bull Session With Big Daddy ( a conversation recorded while eating lunch about nothing in particular), I will never know.
