Saint Martha was the patron Saint of housewives, butlers, cooks, and servants among others. Also known as the wonder worker of Southern Gaul, she is commonly represented by housekeys and brooms. Her day of memorial is July 29.

She was the sister of Saint Lazarus, and was raised from the dead with him and their sister Mary of Bethany, by Jesus. According to popular legend, she subdued a raging dragon by dousing it in holy water, while she was doing her house work.
