An early Persian martyr. Also known as Hebed Jesus was simply a deacon who was martyred under the persecutions of Shapur II, King of Persia around the year 342. Records indicate that he was martyred along with a number of other priests, deacons, bishops, and courtiers, such as Ambrosius, Acepsimus, Azadanes, Bicor, Mareas, Milles, and a woman named Tarbula, who suffered a particularly cruel death by sawing. Abdiesus's life and death are memorialized on April 22.
