In 1959, Anton Prijon won a World Championship using a kayak and paddle he had designed and built himself. Together with his wife, he opened a shop in Germany in 1962. In 1981 he invested in a production method called extrusion blowmolding, building the Taifun model in 1982. In 1994 the Odyssee model, designed for tandem touring, was produced. Since 1996 Prijon boats, including the Calabria, have been distributed by dealers around the world. Because of the type of plastic used to make them, Prijon kayaks can be recycled instead of dumped in a landfill.
