A symphonic poem by Jean Sibelius inspired by Finnish mythology as portrayed in the Kalevala. In the poem, Väinamöinen falls in love with a beautifulgirl who has a heart of ice. She gives him and her other suitors tasks which are impossible to perform. After trying many of these tasks, Väinamöinen sadly gave up on her, but was wiser for the experience.
