Peter Lombard

Peter Lombard, was probably born in Novara and only later moved to Lombardy. Peter Lombard is historically significant for his philosophical and theological work The Sentences. It became so popular in its time that Robert Bacon thought lectures on the scriptures were taking a back seat to lectures on the Sentences.

Despite being very influential in the formation of ealy Christian doctrine, the cautiously written Sentences was considered to be erroneous in later years. In terms of exposition, it is generally held that he was surpassed by Albert the Great who was, in turn, surpassed by Thomas Aquinas.
