Norman McLaren was a famous animator with the National Film Board in Canada for over 45 years. He is renowned for his work with experimental animation, including films made with physical objects, pictures painted directly onto the film, and even simple dots and lines in some of his more minimalist attempts. His films have won over 200 international awards, including an Oscar and a Palme d'Or. Today, the Norman McLaren Heritage Prize for art and the Norman McLaren building which houses the head office of the National Film Board are just two of the many testaments to his life and work.
