Neusiedlersee to the Germans and Fertö tó to the Hungarians, Neusiedler is a shallow lake (average depth: 1.5 m) on the border of Austria and Hungary southeast of Vienna. The salt marshes that surround the lake are home to some rare birds and fish, and the reeds that grow in the lake are harvested by the Austrian cellulose industry. The lake is also the site of some touristy resort hotels.
