Stances
Prev: Heisoku Dachi
Next: Zenkutsu Dachi

This ring is under construction so please don't nail me for broken links. It's likely to take about a month to finish, I'm about 1/16 of the way through. Thanks for your patience.

Musubidachi is one of the simpler Karate stances and mostly seems to be used for bowing (Rei) and standing to attention etc. It is formed by first forming Heisoku Dachi (feet together) and then turning each foot out to the side by about 30° whilst keeping the heels together. In virtually all cases the arms and hands are straight down the sides of the body.

I have experience of only a couple of instances in which this stance is used in actual techniques, namely in the Kata Pinan Sandan (or Heian Sandan for all you Shotokan students out there), and also in the Kata Jion. It is probably used in a number of other Kata as well. Generally it's employed for 'in-betweeney' moves, as a transition from Heisoku Dachi to some other stance.
