Sauce for a traditional appetizer of the Philippines called Lumpia. This sauce is also called Paalat.


1 clove garlic -- crushed 1/2 cup brown sugar 1/2 cup soy sauce 1-1/2 cups water 4 tablespoons cornstarch 1/3 cups cold water 1 tablespoon vegetable oil


  1. Mince the garlic and mix the cornstarch into 1/3 cup water.
  2. Heat the oil in a medium saucepan on medium heat
  3. add garlic and saute until soft.
  4. Stir in brown sugar, soy sauce and 1-1/2 cups water.
  5. Slowly add cornstarch mixture stirring constantly until thick.
  6. cool and serve with lumpia.
