紀伊

Kii was one of the 68 Ancient Provinces of Japan, contiguous with what is now Wakayama Prefecture. This area of Japan is still known today as the Kii Peninsula, after the old name of the province.

The province also lent its name to a class of battleships in the Imperial Japanese Navy before and during World War II.

In the Edo Period, one of the three main branches (sanke) of the ruling Tokugawa family had its headquarters at Wakayama in Kii.
