Kalesa or
Karitela is the colorful horse drawn carriages used here in the
Philippines.
Usually it is just one horse and one driver, called "kutsero", and can carry two to three adults. It has two very big wheels and is quite a sight to see, especially against the very dull backdrop of the grey concrete jungle.
Common accesories that come with the Kalesa is a whip for prodding the horse to move, reins for steering, a bag to catch the horse poop, and a bucket of water and horse food.
Though it was once a primary mode of transportation it now is a novelty and more of a tourist thing. For a few dollars your kutsero will take you all around Luneta, Ermita, Malate, and to Roxas Boulevard to see the glorious Manila Bay sunset.
