Jon Agee is a wonderful modern
children's book author and illustrator. The humor in his books lies in the word play and clever
lyrics. He wrote his first book of
palindromes (sentences or words that are the same when repeated backwards) in 1991 (a
palindromatic year?) which consisted of
line-and-gray wash drawings and senseless yet clever palindromatic phrases. His illustrations resembled a mixture of
Gary Larson's
The Far Side and the pictures drawn by a ten year-old child and hung on the refrigerator door. After reading one of his books you will find yourself transfixed for many hours in an attempt to create your own clever palindromes.
