Emtec Group is a BASF spin-off company; actually, it's the former BASF Magnetics department. Emtec means 'European Multimedia Technologies'.

In 2000, Emtec turned over about 767 million euros and employed about 2700 people. They make about all kinds of computer and entertainment consumables and accessories such as all kinds of recordable CDs and DVDs, minidiscs, video tape, audio cassettes (bleh!), diskettes, memory cards such as CompactFlash or SmartMedia, inkjet paper and cartridges, smart card readers and even those funny lens cleaner CDs.

Actually, there's an Emtec minidisc with recordings of our jazz combo on my desk right now. Cool.
