So it's come out today that the leader of the American Nazi Party (I had no idea there was even such an abhorrent thing) sees "an opportunity" in a Trump victory.
Cue the THOUSANDS of posts to Facebook and Twitter crowing about this as bona fide proof that Donald Trump intends on installing a Fourth Reich in America. Jackbooted thugs taking the gay, female, transgender, Mexican, Muslim, and other non white non straight non Protestant people to concentration camps.
This isn't a post about politics as such. You're welcome to believe what you wish and vote for whom you vote for. I'm on record as saying I am abstaining from this election.
But I find it interesting that my many left wing friends, who would simply shut down a "source please" response ("source please" being an attempt to shut down the argument by suddenly being interested in academic references) with "but that's Fox News LOL" will happily quote an opinion piece from The Guardian. Or in this case, run with Buzzfeed, of all sources, without doing the remotest fact checking.
What few people realize is that with EVERY potential change to the status quo in politics, it stirs up the hornet's nest of people who usually never get airtime or even the remotest amount of political say. Marijuana activists and extreme socialists were energized by Bernie Sanders. Of course you'll start hearing from the rabble at times like this. YOU ALWAYS DO.
Here is the quote from the audio:
"I think it’s gonna surprise the enemy, because I think that they feel that the white working class — especially the male portion of the working class — and with him his female counterparts have basically thrown in the towel. Given up hope of any politician again standing up for their interests.”
and from a 2015 posting on their webpage
“We have a wonderful OPPORTUNITY here folks, that may never come again, at the RIGHT time. Donald Trump’s campaign statements, if nothing else, have SHOWN that ‘our views’ are NOT so ‘unpopular’ as the Political Correctness crowd have told everyone they are!”
I didn't see anything in this that suggests that Trump is an actual bona fide racist or in any way advances their cause. I do see two critical pieces of information we need to pay very careful attention to.
- There is a large bloc of working class people who now feel permanently disenfranchized
- There are a large number of people very tired of how far political correctness has gone.
The weird thing is, if they posted "We have a wonderful OPPORTUNITY here folks, that may never come again, at the RIGHT time. Hillary Clinton's demonization of white straight males and the passage of new "trade deals" which get rid of good jobs even for the upper middle class is a good way to leverage hatred against the people who took their jobs" nobody would accuse them of endorsing her, or being in bed with her.
The scary thing is, the cretin who runs that hideous party is RIGHT.
South Park did a cartoon at one point in which "goobacks" - aliens from the future looking for jobs and refuge in America's past (a way of making fun of America's concerns about Mexican illegal immigration) start rapidly replacing people from their jobs. When ultra-liberal Randy Marsh hears his son making nasty comments about them he is VERY quick to lecture him sternly on not being bigoted. He also joins in laughing at the blue collar guys becoming unemployed with their now-infamous meme refrain- "DEY TERK ER JERBS!" Randy continues to stay in his bubble until one day he goes to work to find a "gooback" at his desk. Turns out they're way cheaper at doing his job too and just as qualified. In that one moment Randy yells out - "DEY TERK MAH JERB!"
People are making a lot of comparisons between Trump and Adolf Hitler. While they're busy lecturing everyone on the importance of not forgetting history - they completely forget that Hitler didn't have magical powers. What got him installed as Der Furher wasn't his ability to stand there ranting in a gravelly voice but the fact that he promised to halt the economic malaise with massive hyperinflation and unemployment, and did. Germany went from carrying money around in wheelbarrows to a functioning Autobahn system and effiient factories with good jobs.
The lesson here is, if you don't want another Hitler, don't have a large bloc of disenfranchised people who just want to work.
And herein lies the twin dangers of the strategy of just pooh-poohing Trump as a Nazi (no actual factual evidence to support this claim has been found to date). It further belittles and humiliates a group of people angry and tired and who simply want to put food on the table, and it does nothing except show America to be a nation of Prius-driving Internet workers showing nothing but contempt for "lesser people". It also allows the right hand to do something truly sinister while the left hand is distracting the audience. Bill Maher made the statement that he will be doing NOTHING for the next few months except rant about Trump. Meanwhile Julien Assange over at Wikileaks is promising to release leaked emails about how Hillary Clinton was selling weapons to ISIS.
Donald Trump made a comment to that effect the other day, and the network immediately cut off his speech mid sentence, and went to different programming. That's food for thought, and should give you pause.
What makes this even more scary is that this leak isn't courtesy of Russia but DNC insiders who are scared, deadly scared, about what they're really planning.
People will quickly handwave the fact away that Hillary Clinton's mentor was a bona fide Klansman and Klavern leader. Sure he repented of that later in life, but you know as well as I do that no Republican would get away with that relationship. The cognitive dissonance is staggering.
we should never support a candidate who's been supported by racists ever, right?
