Certain states, like those of the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man, which although sovereign, have the British monarch as their head of state, and depend on the UK in certain ways, typically for defence and for foreign policy.

The Channel Islands, if not the Isle of Man, also owe taxes to the Crown, although certain arrangements have been reached in latter years with certain of the Isles.
