Καλχος

King of the Daunii, an ancient race of the south of Italy; he loved the magician Circe at the time when Odysseus was staying on her island, but she did not want to be loved by Calchus and was in love with Odysseus. When Calchus pressed his suit with her she held a banquet for him and there turned him into a pig; she then shut him up in her pigsty. When their king did not return the Daunians came in force to look for him. Circe agreed to give him back to them, in human form, but on the condition that he would not set foot on her island again.
