Another
musical produced by
Andrew Lloyd Webber and
directed by
Steven Pimlott. Currently playing at
The Apollo in
Victoria, London. Set in
Bombay, it cost around
£4.5 million to create. The hero, Akaash (played by
Raza Jaffrey), dreams of becoming a
Bollywood actor, and the heroine Priya (
Preeya Kalidas is the daughter of a film director who is also involved somehow with the
Mafia. Obviously they fall in love. In fact, dmtw.co.uk says this;
"Akaash and Priya: two lovers from different worlds, sharing one dream."
Not the most intriguing of storylines, in fact - somewhat predictable. But it is so brilliantly colourful and has such great songs, that you can't help but want to stand up and dance along.
(A song from Bombay Dreams, Shakalaka Baby (sung by Preeya Kalidas, the lead actress), is being released as a single in the UK.)
The soundtrack, composed by AR Rahman, goes as follows;
