Betaine is an additive often used in Course Fishing today. It can be purchased a pellet form which can either be added to ground bait or put down as a carpet on the lake or river bed. It is an excellent attractor for Carp and Barbel.

Be"ta*ine (?), n. [From beta, generic name of the beet.] Chem.

A nitrogenous base, C5H11NO2, produced artificially, and also occurring naturally in beetroot molasses and its residues, from which it is extracted as a white crystalline substance; -- called also lycine and oxyneurine. It has a sweetish taste.
