The abbreviation for the Be Internet Appliance. A device designed by the company Be that serves a common purpose (such as a refrigerator, or webpad) but also adds the functionality of the internet.
BeIA is a software installation (not a device) that provides Opera, RealPlayer, Java, Flash, and email on top of BeOS's app_server. The prototype device, developed by Intel, was called the Internet Toaster, in homage to the Amiga Video Toaster.
