processor created by Motorola
. I would see it as a successor to the 68000
. Although, they differ in design and programming model.
The 88000 wasn't as succesful, this becasue Motorola dropped it in favour of the PowerPC
alliance. Together with IBM
, Motorola created the PowerPC line of processor. This chip was based on IBM's POWER
design and the I/O
part was based on the 88000's architecture.
Also known as the M88000
