were held in Stockholm because of Australian quarantine. East and West
Germany competed in the same team. The closing ceremonies were introduced.
Because of the Soviet invasion of Hungary earlier that year, blood was
shed when their teams met in the water polo final. The game was stopped when
Hungary led 4-0, and they were given the title.
