Öland is a small-ish long (150km), thin, island, just east of
Kalmar, in
Småland,
Sweden. It is famed for having more
windmills than
Holland, with
over 400 on the island, today, some lived in. The island is reached by the
second-longest bridge(*) in
Europe, from
Kalmar, and the main town is
Borgholm.
(*) Superseded by the one crossing the one crossing the Øresund/Öresund between Malmö and Copenhagen.
