A Phone by Google Android app feature.
" As someone who loves to prank my friends, I can see these audio emoji being overused and quickly becoming more annoying than funny. "

This feature began popping up t the beginning of phone calls a short while ago for me. Clearly, some Android OS update installed this bit of silliness, and I'm not sure I like it; to me it represents another vector for bad taste.
As the name suggests, it's the audio equivalent of an emoji, including:
Clapping Hands (applause)
Face with Tears of Joy (laughter)
Party Popper (party noises)
Crying Face (womp womp/sad trombone)
Pile of Poo (fart)
Drum (sting/ba dum tss)
To use the feature, first enable it by clicking the audio emoji button, which pops up an overlay with the emoji listed above. To use each, simply click the appropriate image to play the sound and await the inevitable response (I say 'inevitable' because most people will hate it. It's simply begging to be abused or used inappropriately. I became a victim before i knew what it was;
talking with a friend a few days after my heart attack, i told him I'd be needing open heart surgery, to which he responded with the sad trombone sound, which did not go down well at my end.
Google, give me an AI assistant that will translate my text message typos into real language, not this puerile nonsense.
