County in Northern Ireland, and also the main city in this county. The city is referred to as Londonderry in the British media, in deference to the Unionist members of its population. I'm not certain of the reason for its dual name, but I know that the city council is known as "Derry City Council".
Derry was the scene of the Bloody Sunday massacre in 1972.
