There isn't much to this book, but there's not supposed to be, it's for babies. Every page is interactive - a reflective "mirror," a peekaboo page, a furry page. "Judy can pat the bunny. Now YOU pat the bunny."

A lot of adults hate it - simple line drawings, pastel colors, and insipid text do not an exciting read-aloud make. But this makes a good introduction to books in general, as it requires the readee to become personally involved in every page.

There are better interactive books out there. But keep in mind that in 1940, when this was first published, it was the first of its kind.

Since then, there have been numerous sequels, which aren't as good, but at least they were written by Dorothy's daughter, Edith Kunhardt. There's also of course a line of Pat the Bunny toys and tie-ins, including a version of the book with an eerie, bloated half-a-bunny puppet popping out the top. Forget I mentioned it.

A sweet book. We like it. But still good to make fun of.
