Former editor and political editor of The Spectator who resigned as editor at large in March 2002 in protest at the publishing of an article by Labour MP George Galloway. He is the official biographer of John Major. He made a controvertial contribution to a Cambridge University Union debate in 1994 stating that homosexuality was "loathsome", "detestable" and "morally inferior". He is a columnist for The Independent and is usually far more reasonable than the above debate might indicate. He makes regular Radio and Television appearances (for example on Question Time). His views tend to the right but he is by no means an ideologue. An interesting man with interesting views.
