North Dakota (place)

Some facts about the state of North Dakota:

• North Dakota was was either the 39th OR the 40th state to enter the Union. Benjamin Harrison never told anyone which admission bill he signed first on November 2, 1889.
• Dakota is the Sioux Indian word for "friend"
• The capitol city is Bismarck
• North Dakota's nicknames include "Peace Garden State", "Flickertail State", and "Roughrider State"
• State motto: "Liberty and Union Now and Forever, One and Inseparable"
• The state flower is the Wild Prairie Rose
• The state tree is the American Elm tree
• The state bird is the Western Meadowlark

Also of note, the square dance is the official state dance and milk is the state beverage.
