This is what
some people call
chick peas. When I first moved to the
left coast I began to think it might be a
coastal thing, but it's not.
As near as I can tell, when this most wondrous vegetable is purchased in a can, it is called a garbanzo bean. When purchased fresh or picked, it is called a chick pea. When ground up into hummus, it is called a chick pea. When tossed into a salad, it is also called a chick pea.
What excuses the cannery folks from calling it a chick pea? Garbanzo has to be the silliest word I have ever encountered, behind maybe contrafibularities.
