A "blip" is a small, glowing dot on the display screen of a radar or sonar unit. Blips represent the reflection of radar or sonar emissions off of an object in the distance. Things which cause blips are typically free-standing objects such as ships, buoys or aircraft; landmasses and buildings typically have more contiguous radar signatures.
