Organic farming does decrease1 yield to some extent, but there are organic methods that can be used to organically achieve yields nearly as high as conventional methods. Anyway, I just thought I'd provide some info on pesticide use, chemical fertilizers, and organic farming:
Organic farming probably is a Good Thing, IMO, but you also might want to consider eating less meat and buying locally-grown food.
On the other had, in keeping with the title of this node, I'll now apply the utilitarian argument against vegetarianism to buying organic food:
Why your buying organic food is a waste of money
The agriculture industry is big. Really hugely big. Even if you eat only organically-grown food it won't make a lick of difference. Only if a huge number of people switched over would the industry use even an ounce less pesticides or chemical fertilizer. And if 90% of the people did switch, you could keep eating inorganically-grown crops still without any effect. Your vote does not make a difference.
1 When I wrote this initially, I said 'increase'. Surely that's a typo.
