This is the sequence of the original quote of 1946. The history and development, free variations and usage traced here Harald Marcuse's site
This is the first variation of 1946. It may well have insulted Jewish feelings but historically the sequence is correct. The first targets were the communists and socialists after all the Nazis did not want competitors in their grasp for power or their elections in March, 1933.
First they came for the socialists,
and I did not speak out
because I was no socialist.
Then they came for the unionists,
and I did not speak out
because I was no unionist.
Then they came for the Jews,
and I did not speak out
because I was no Jew.
Then thy came for me,
and there was no one left
to speak for me.
