A social-democratic party in Canada; founded (1961) out of the New Party
movement, a coalition formed by the Co-operative Commonwealth Federation (a
labour party formed during The Great Depression) and the Canadian Labour
Congress. The NDP has usually been #3, at best, in national politics, but
they've run various provincial governments over the years. Nowadays, they seem to be trying to become the Tweedle Three to the Dum and Dee of the
centrist Tories and Liberals.
