Original manager of the Rolling Stones - he invented their thuggish persona, and fired pianist Ian Stewart for "not looking the part". Turned the shy, untalented (at the time) Marianne Faithfull (later to become Mick Jagger's girlfriend) into a pop star. Post-Stones, founded Immediate Records, a label that included The Nice (Keith Emerson's great pre-ELP band) and The Small Faces (and lesser bands, like The Mockingbirds, with Graham Gouldman and Kevin Godley) on its roster.
