In
hang-gliding and
paragliding, "flyable" means weather conditions such that one can safely launch, fly, and land a
hang glider or
paraglider. This means among other things that the
wind, if any, is blowing more or less directly uphill at launch (if foot launching), is not greater than 25-30 MPH (depending on
aircraft and pilot
skill), and is also blowing at a similar or lesser velocity in the intended landing area (
LZ). It also means that there is sufficient
visibility to avoid impacts with other aircraft and the ground.
Soarable conditions are generally preferred, though first flights are usually scheduled for times of day when it is non-soarable but nicely flyable.
