The Mosler MT900 is a supercar created by wealthy financier Warren Mosler in cooperation with Unigraphics Solutions. It is a hyper-exotic, very similar in appearance to the McLaren F1 (and Saleen S7). Estimated sticker price is from $120,000 to $250,000, depending on the level of luxury vs. performance desired. The car's weight goal is 900 kilograms (about 2000lb, therefore, "MT900"), but they are having trouble keeping it below 1000kg.

It is (according to Mosler and Popular Science magazine) the first supercar ever to be built without making a scaled-down, physical clay model first. It was completely translated from drafted computer information into reality. The chassis has a core of honeycombed aluminum surrounded by fiberglass, allowing it to be ridiculously lightweight. At least two models are available: the MT900 and MT900R (the lighter and faster racing model).

The transaxle is derived completely from a six-speed Porsche 911. The suspension and engine are completely adopted from the Corvette C5. The formula highly deviates from a standard American sports car, however -- it is mid-engined, and tube-framed, and it looks far more "European."

As of now, Mosler provides no performance statistics on their website. Nearly every car and man-magazine in existence claims there will be a $250,000 650-horsepower Twin-Turbo model available, courtesy of Lingenfelter Performance Engineering. This is not an unrealistic possibility, as Lingenfelter already has a 650-horsepower Twin-Turbo kit available ($44,000 if done aftermarket) for any C5 Corvette owner who wants to pay the price of another car to have 80% more power. (This kit can be added to the 2001 LS6 Corvette as well!) Even if Mosler fails to develop a parternship with Lingenfelter, any MT900 owner could feasibly have the kit installed themselves, if the engine bay is as roomy as a Corvette's.

Currently, I have been unable to get any performance statistics, except one questionable (due to the source, Maxim magazine) but realistic claim of 0-60 mph acceleration in 3.2 seconds, and a top speed of 235 mph for the Twin-Turbo model. As a matter of fact, the lighest MT900 model, the MT900R, is nearly identical to the McLaren F1 in weight and power production - if equipped with Turbos - making 3.2 a reasonable claim. If they can manage decent traction on the 650 horsepower model, the Turbo should allow it to outrun the Lamborghini Diablo, the Saleen S7 (all other American production cars go without saying), the Ferrari 550 Maranello and 360 Modena, and the Porsche 911, 911 Turbo, 911 GT3, GT2, maybe even GT1.

The non-turbo models will run about $120,000 and $160,000, the cheaper racing version, (MT900R) being lighter and without luxury items like CD player, power locks, etc. The luxury version is said to weigh 2400lb with a peak power output of 345hp, giving it a power-to-weight ratio that dumps it squarely into the same performance bracket as the Ferrari 360 Modena and Porsche 911 Turbo. The racing version is 200 lb lighter. It goes without saying (thanks to its weight) that any model would beat the pants off of any stock Corvette, which is a decent accomplishment.
