The icons displayed by Windows' dial up networking window to represent a connection to a certain computer is known as a connectoid. To use such a ridiculous term is obviously part of Microsoft's scheme to destroy the credibility of System Administrators and Technical support.

Tech support: ...now, right-click the connectoid, and -
user: The what?
Tech support: The connectoid - it's got a picture of a 'phone on -
user: You must think I'm stupid or something. Connectoid, indeed. <hangs up in disgust>

Maybe Microsoft should release a pamphlet or something - 'everything you wanted to know about connectoids, but were afraid to ask', perhaps...

http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q131/2/27.asp uses the term 'connectoid'.
